Common Name : Dogwood, Variegated
Latin Name : Cornus alba Description : The white and green foliage of the Variegated Dogwood make it a popular choice for foundation plantings. Variegated Dogwood are not as tough and versatile as are the green-leafed varieties of dogwood. In fact, the Variegated is of a different species, and the bark color is not as deep a red. Furthermore, the Variegated Dogwood can, if planted away from the full sun, get lanky and out of control. Their leaves get scruffy-looking as the summer progresses. To keep the shrub fresh-looking and compact, cut the Variegated Dogwood back to the ground every year or two. A recent selection of Vareigated Dogwood, the Ivory Halo, is vastly improved. The leaves display a sharp contrast between a whiter white and a greener green. The shrub grows more slowly, and stays full and compact. The Ivory Halo is the best of the Variegated Dogwood. |
