Common Name : Apple, Centennial
Latin Name : Malus Description : No apple is as certain to bear the second year after planting as the Centennial. Introduced by the University of Minnesota in 1958, the Centennial is sometimes referred to as a crab--if only because the egg-shaped fruit is sometimes less than two inches across, which is the threshold for being tossed into the "crab" bin. Centennial bear in early-August. They are ideal for pickling or eating. They are a little much work for pies. The tree is covered with white blooms in spring. Even a tiny tree can bear several ice cream pails full of fruit. |
